Personal Healthcare Monitoring Report (PHMR)

Project Overview

This project will define a specification for the structured representation of a form for monitoring the health status of a patient as reported by clinical devices such as weigh scales, blood pressure cuffs, glucometers, pulse oximeters, etc.. The specification will leverage the HL7 CDA base standard following the philosophy of the C-CDA project.

In the context of remotely monitoring patients, there is a need to report a patients' vital signs and other pertinent health status data such as the glucose levels should the patient be diabetic. The electronic interchange of patients’ vital signs to the monitoring service or medical practitioner is the first step in enabling effective dialogue and health practice. The Continua Health Alliance is recognizing this need and has established a set of standardized protocols which take patient data recorded in a remote (often home) environment by sensor devices and report it to the healthcare provider. The Personal Healthcare Monitoring Report (PHMR) is typically the final stage of the reporting sequence. Our approach here is to represent the PHMR in a structured document by reusing and/or enhancing the existing C-CDA templates where possible while creating new C-CDA templates where necessary. While using the C-CDA philosophy and templates it is important to recognize that the current C-CDA is US realm and the PHMR needs to be universal realm.
