Paul has undertaken a series of steps to perform the review and mapping:

  1. Prepare a W3C Schema of the v3publishing DTD
  2. Validate the existing artifacts against the V3 Publishing Schema
  3. Determine what changes are required for basic XML validity
  4. Evaluate which elements and attributes in the V3 Publishing Schema are used and which domains use (or ignore) them

The above process was completed and initial steps were taken to the next phase of mapping the V3 Publishing Schema to the MIF Schema.

  • Paul has done some cursory evaluation of the mapping from the V3 Publishing Schema to MIF
  • Woody has suggested that he will take a domain (Patient Administration was on option) and hand-map to the MIF
    • Will not focus on a valid document but rather work towards intent
    • Hand-crafted file will be used as a guideline for the final result
    • Will provide Paul and Woody with a better sense of the complexities inherent in the conversion

Paul makes a further comment relevant to the progress of this item:

As for producing transforms to generate HTML from MIF instances, before that work begins we will have to know whether the existing
HTML that is generated from domain xml is EXACTLY what is wanted or whether any changes are wanted. Either way, the mapping produced
from domain xml to MIF should help in "borrowing" pieces of the existing pubs transforms. Assuming current HTML is what is wanted generating
it from MIF instances shouldn't be a problem, but I don't have an estimate at this point of how much work will be involved...

I have to study MIF and the existing HTML more for that.
