Q. Is the "url" property of an image designed to be directly dereferencable to obtain a DICOM image file? Or is it some kind of base URL for a WADO server? (I'm hoping the former, but the docstring doesn't make this clear: "WADO service where image is available")
A. Yes, the url property is currently (January 2016) designed to be the WADO-RS url for the image, not the base url for the WADO-RS service. It is also not the WADO-URI url for the image. The url should be without any query parameters, so you can add appropriate parameters or http headers to the image request to render it in the appropriate format, size, etc.
