Improper semantic overloading of NM in CD Data Type
V 2.8 HL7 Proposal Change Request ID: File Name: Semantic_overloading_of_NM.doc Description: Remove improper semantic overloading of the NM components of the NR data type Status: proposed HL7-Version 2.8 Chapter/Section 2.A.5.6 Sponsoring Person Harry Solomon Sponsoring Business Unit GE Healthcare Date Originated: 11/25/08 Date HL7 approved: Backward Compatible: Forward Compatible: HL7 Status & Date Refered to OO for determination of whether anyone values the constraint. Justification Detail The CD data type specifies an improper semantic overloading of the NM components of the NR data type to also indicate a restriction on the formatting/resolution of NM subcomponents of a different segment. A compliant application should be able to receive any NM values, whether or not they have a decimal fraction.
This proposal was submitted as part of the v2.7 Ballot, but ruled that while technically accurate, this change should be done through the proposal process for v2.8. Proposal 2.A.5.6 Minimum and Maximum Data Values (NR)
Definition: This component defines the minimum and maximum data values which can occur in this channel in the digital waveform data, that is, the range of the ADC, and also specifies whether or not non-integral data values may occur in this channel in the waveform data. If the minimum and maximum values are both integers (or not present), only integral data values may be used in this channel. If either the minimum or the maximum value contains a decimal point, then non-integral as well as integral data values may be used in this channel. … V3 Implications none v2.xml Implications none
