Use Case Name: Subsumption Queries

• Description: The ability to find all concepts that are a subtype of a specified concept identifier.
  • For instance, when searching SNOMED CT, I need to find all concepts that are a subtype of 243796009 "Context-dependent Categories" with an AssociatedFinding relationship to 195967001 "Asthma" or any of its descendants.

• Who needs it and why? - The ability to query against the description logic of a code system is a common requirement. Often value sets are made up of the deendents of a specified code (somtimes excluding the parent code(s))
• Why should this be standardized? - While the DL for specific code systems often differ, the base requirement for identifying the child concepts for a parent is a requirement, that should be standardized across and within code systems.

Use Case Name: MapEntries Query

• Description: Need the ability to query the MapEntries of a particular CodeMap. The ability to find all concepts that are a subtype of a specified concept identifier.
  • Need the ability to query the MapEntries of a particular CodeMap. As noted above, I think the validateTranslation and translateCode functions should be modified to support this.

• Who needs it and why? - Bob Dolan

• Description: The user wants to determine the set of codes/values that exist as the local extensions to a terminology.
• Who needs it and why? - The local extensions to a terminology need to be able to be easily selected out of a terminology for review and analysis.
