Summary
HL7 has developed and maintained a set of schemas called the Model Interchange Format (MIF) since 2002. This set of schemas defines the syntax for HL7 artifact exchange and is broadly used as a persistence and exchange syntax by HL7 tools. The schemas also include rigorous documentation defining each property of every type of artifact HL7 develops and maintains.
