Policy for Intensional Value Set Definitions based on LOINC
Intensional Value Set Definitions based on LOINC
When property-based value set definitions are created for intensional value sets, and the source terminology is LOINC, the following properties are the valid properties for the definition:
Properties of main laboratory and clinical LOINC codes
The LOINC properties that can be used for intensional value set definitions are those listed in Appendix A LOINC Database Structure in the LOINC Manual, and are the items listed in the ‘Field Name’ column of that table. For the definitions of these properties, and the lists of constrained values for some of these properties, please see Appendix A of the LOINC manual.
Properties for the Document Ontology LOINC codes
In addition, for those LOINC codes that are part of the Document Ontology, there are currently five additional properties that may be used in property-based Value Set Definition components:
- Document.Kind
- Document.TypeOfService
- Document.Setting
- Document.Role
- Document.SubjectMatterDomain
These are currently published in the auxiliary Document Ontology File (separate download), and will likely be extended in the future. They will always be the unique values in the PartTypeName column of the Document Ontology Download .csv file.
All properties will have string values that may be used for the property value part of the definition. The current allowed values of all properties are published with each version of LOINC.
This will be documented in the next release of the LOINC manual.
