Issue

NOTE: This issue may be superseded by S&I value set discussion

The Value set for SPM.4(Specimen Type) should be constrained to the SNOMED CT Specimen hierarchy (12303009) instead of SNOMED CT.

Recommendation

The Value set attribute for SPM.4(Specimen Type) and the Source attribute in Table 4-2 Value/Code System Summary" should be changed to "SNOMED CT Specimen hierarchy (12303009) and/or HL70487" The comments associated with these elements should be changed from " Either HL70487 or SNOMED CT Specimen hierarchy may be used...." to " Either HL70487 and/or SNOMED CT Specimen hierarchy may be used...."

Rationale

Correct to reflect the appropriate subset of SNOMED CT for Specimen type.
