Security and Privacy Patient Friendly Natural Language for Consent Directives - Update

  • Diagram link: (to be added)
  • Diana presented a new wizard for the Patient Friendly Consent Directive example. She received much constructive feedback on the wizard.
    • Susan commented that the order in which the patient sees the different consent directive questions in the wizard could be changed.
    • Lisa remarked that the wizard points to the HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices document, but that this document must be written in patient friendly language so as to meet the project's goal of making consent directives easy for patients to understand and comprehend.
    • Steve Eichner suggested that Diana may want to provide an overview that gives all the steps you’re going to go through for the consent directive example, and then goes through all the steps.
    • Mike said that the purpose of this project is not to create a GUI. He added that we're not balloting a GUI; it’s supposed to present options that provide patients with choices.
    • Mike added that Diana needs to state what the requirements are for the information that we need in the consent directive. Next to that, Diana needs to describe what the system is and the standard that we’re using in HL7 to connect to that system.
