Lab workflow

Further reviewed lab workflow.

  • EHR
    • 1 requisition
      • Multiple orders, some can be “convenience panels”, others “regular panels” and other individual tests
        • Convenience panel = a grouping of tests (or sub-panels) for ordering convenience where the components can be run and reported out independently.
          • Convenience panels can live only in the EHR system (which transparently generates multiple orders behind the scenes) or in the LIS system where the EHR creates a single order and the LIS handles splitting it
        • Regular panel = a grouping of tests where all components will be reported out as a group
  • LIS
    • Create a “filler” order for each individual test, each regular panel and each test or regular panel that constitutes the convenience panel

Andrea will check whether the LIS would also have a filler order for the overall convenience panel
