The entryRelationship.contextConductionInd differs from the otherwise common use of this attribute in that in all other cases where this attribute is used, the value is fixed at "true", whereas here the value is defaulted to "true", and can be changed to "false" when referencing an entry in the same document. Setting the context conduction to false when referencing an entry in the same document keeps clear the fact that the referenced object retains its original context.

I was intending to raise a couple of issues with this text.

Firstly, what is entryRelationship ? This doesn't appear to be in the model and isn't something I'm familiar with. I assumed that this was meant to say "actRelationship", meaning the sourceOf2 relationship. So this should read "The actRelationship.contextConductionInd differs...". In fact since the paragraph is all about sourceOf2 it might be easier just to say "The contextConductionInd differs..."

Secondly, I'm disagreeing with what the paragraph is asserting. It says that "in all other cases where this attribute is used the value is fixed at true". It's not clear whether this means in all other cases in the world, or in all cases in clinical statement, but in neither case is this correct. SourceOf1 and referenceRange in CS both have this defaulted to "false" for instance. I wonder if this text has come from a description of an old version of the pattern (perhaps even the UK one). Possibly this is intended to means "in all other cases where the value is "true" it is fixed at true, but here it is just defaulted to true".

A further point is despite the apparent error in what's being said, that the paragraph is worded badly, since it uses the wording "common use" and "in all other cases" to describe the same thing. "Common use" implies the normal case, used most of the time, but presumably with some exceptions. "In all other cases" implies no exceptions.

Recommendation

A suggested rewording of the paragraph is :

The contextConductionInd differs from the otherwise common use of this attribute where the value would be fixed at "true". Instead the value is defaulted to "true", and can be changed to "false" when referencing an entry in the same document. Setting the context conduction to "false" when referencing an entry in the same document keeps clear the fact that the referenced object retains its original context.

Discussion

• After discussion we concluded that changing entryRelationship to actRelationship is appropriate, but then also concluded that the entire paragraph is not relevant.

Recommended Action Items

• Remove the paragraph at hand.
