One of the outcomes of the several collaborative sessions we scheduled in Phoenix around the topic of immunizations was to identify the need to harmonize the Immunization standard with the Care Provision standard. Specifically, the POIZ messages should be harmonized with CareRecord.

We thought of these steps to accomplish this:

(1) PHER to make comments on the CareRecord DSTU related to harmonization with POIZ

(2) PHER to collaborate with CDS on CareRecord comments related to decision support

(3) Depending upon outcome, PHER to develop a POIZ template on CareRecord

We see that there is a way to make comments on the DSTU on the HL7 web site. Is this the best way for PHER to proceed?

As a heads up, some of the comments might likely align with the findings of IHE PCC is drafting an Immunization Content profile for this year, based upon CareRecord. This is something both Larry and Keith Boone, as IHE PCC co-chairs, are well familiar with. A draft of the profile is found at:

http://wiki.ihe.net/index.php?title=Immunization_Registry_Content#Immunization_Summary_Option_2

It gives a side-by-side comparison of POIZ and CareRecord with regard to immunization content. Please note this is a working document and not an official IHE draft, although draft for public comment is expected soon.

Related to this, you might know about the Common Product Model project which Pharmacy is driving and PHER is collaborating on with respect to immunizations. Finally, there has been some discussion in Structured Documents about a CDA-based Immunization official document (“Yellow Card”). We are not sure if these are other things that you might not know about that might also be related to harmonizing CareRecord with other HL7 efforts with respect to immunizations.

Please let us know your thoughts on whether we are approaching this the best way.

Thanks,

Alean
