Introducting TEL Datatype flavors

A number of affiliate apecifications use various constraints on the contents of TEL. There has also been interest expressed in imposing some of these constraints within universal specifications. While not true datatypes, the definition of datatype flavors for universal HL7 consumption falls within the province of the HL7 datatype specification.

Proposed flavors:

TEL.PHONE: Used to convey telephone numbers. The “value” property is mandatory and must follow the format described in http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2806.txt. The telecommunication schemes supported are "tel" (Telephone) and "fax" (Fax)

TEL.EMAIL: Used to convey e-mail addresses. The "value" property is mandatory and must be a telecommunication type of "sendto" (e-mail)

TEL.PHONEMAIL: Used to convey telephone numbers and/or e-mail addresses. Instances must comply to either phone or e-mail

TEL.URI: Used to convey a reference to an existing resource. Supported schemes are: file, ftp, http, https, mailto and nfs
