Value Set Expansion Standard Project

Project Scope

This project builds upon the work of the Value Set Definition and deeply integrates with the Value Set Binding Semantics Project. This project seeks to define a standard that specifies what content belongs in a value set expansion, how that can be defined, and will include how an expansion may be constrained for a particular use, such as the FHIR Expansion Profile.

Items that people have desired to have control over in an Expansion that we do not currently have a way to specify

1. Display Strings with each coded concept
2. Human language of strings in the expansion
3. Activity Status of the coded concept
4. Concept relationships
5. Other metadata for a coded concept that exist in the referenced code system
6. Code System metadata (such as the IP information) with the expansion
