Summary

This project will create an Electronic Nutrition Care Process Record System (ENCPRS) Functional Profile based on the Electronic Health Record System Functional Model R1.1 (EHRS-FM).

The intent is to develop a standard list of functions and criteria needed for full integration of both the nutrition care process and the International Dietetics and Nutrition Terminology (IDNT) for nutrition care in the ENCPRS into the EHRS, which leverages the placement of the IDNT terminology in UMLS, LOINC and/or SNOMED. This standardization will encourage the acquisition of EHR systems by nutrition health providers and promote information interoperability between nutrition and food systems and other areas of healthcare for a more complete patient care experience.

Description

This project will be conducted as a joint work effort between HL7,the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations (ICDA), where the ADA Nutrition Care Process-Standardized Language (NCP-SL) Committee creates the content and documents workflow relevant to the ENCPRS and the ICDA reviews the work and provides relevant input and/or revision. The workgroup will consist of subject matter experts from nutrition practice and nutrition software vendors.

While we identified multiple products in Section 1, this project is not going to address v.2 and v.3 messaging; however, since there is every intention to link this functional profile to HL7 artifacts which are going to be defined in another project scope statement. The reference in section one to the v.2 and v.3 is for the purpose of cross-referencing the two projects and indicating the connection to other work that has been or is being accomplished.
