  • Brief description of project:

The purpose of this project is to complete and ballot the specification for exchanging a standardized NBS DBS laboratory result (based on the 2011 Public Health Informatics Institute (PHII) Newborn Screening (NBS) Dried Blood Spot (DBS) implementation guide utilizing the HL7 Version 2.5.1 OML^O21 message) updated to the LOI Framework. This message will send all electronic NBS DBS laboratory test orders from the birthing hospital or provider to the laboratory that will conduct the testing.

This implementation guide will also provide recommendations on vocabulary standards and on types of identifiers to capture, which HL7 fields those identifiers are mapped to, and the specific identifiers that may be used.
