Harmonization Proposal for Endorsement

Lloyd suggested that there are problems with being able to create value sets from DedicatedClinicalLocationRoleType since there are multiple codes for single concepts. Woody suggested that some of the codes may need to be deprecated.

Motion: Woody/Mead (passed unanimously) - Change the proposal to recommend that concepts from the HIPPA provider taxonomy need to be removed from RoleCode/DedicatedClinicalLocationRoleType where possible.

Vocabulary Agenda Time

Vocabulary would like to have more time to meet with MnM in Kyoto. Woody and Craig will work on making the appropriate arrangements.

Graphical Representation of RMIMs (continued)

Austin posted an informal poll as to which graphical representation people preferred. The results are:

  • SMD 17
  • UML 10
  • Other 2

Woody expressed the need to have enough content to evaluate a design visibly viewable in a graphical representation. He stated that SMD provides much more of that content than UML.

Lloyd explained that while the richness of the HL7 model can be represented in UML, it is difficult to do this without the aid of an additional tooling layer that is HL7 specific.

Ioana expressed the desire to be able to use tools that are available in the marketplace. This enables people working with HL7 models to use the same tool for HL7 related tasks and for implementation tasks.

There was considerable discussion weighing the use of UML-based tools versus the need to represent more information graphically.

Gregg stated that having all of the information represented graphically is not important for him because it makes the diagrams difficult to read.

Woody asked how hard it would be for Dave Carlson to extend his tool to represent more information graphically.

Ioana suggested soliciting a combined proposal from the SMD folks and the UML folks as to an approach that would work best for both efforts.

Woody suggested documenting the notation differences and ranking their importance.

Lloyd will post a summary of where we are at currently on the wiki and seek more input from the various tool developers.
