The minutes from the March 24, 2015 meeting were unanimously approved.

Security and Privacy Patient Friendly Natural Language for Consent Directives

  • The ballot document for this project was submitted to Lynn Laakso for the May 2015 ballot.
  • Rick presented a conformance statement for this project to the WG members. There was a comment that the grade level (i.e., equivalent reading level) of the plain language translations should be specified in the requirements, but this is considered policy.
  • Rick also presented a mapping of technical/legal words and phrases commonly found in patient consent directives and HIPAA Notices of Privacy Practices to patient friendly words/phrases to the WG members.

ACTION ITEM:

Based on feedback from Mike, Rick will add a mapping of the vocabulary found in the HL7 HCS standard to patient friendly vocabulary.
