The INM committee has created the concept of an "Ambassador". This concept will be added to the DMP of InM. PIC has indicated an interest in the concept.
The Ambassador role will be used where there is need for a more formal representation than an HL7 member who just happens to be present in meetings of multiple committees, but where there is not enough overlap in terms of scope for it to merit a joint meeting between InM and another TC or SIG.
Note: in the text below, "Committee" (capital C) denotes "the INM committee", and "committee" (not a capital c) denotes any non-INM committee or SIG.
In order to facilitate the harmonization between the work of the Committee and the work by other committees, the Committee may empower a person (typically a co-chair) to represent the Committee on a particular topic to another committee (TC or SIG) during a meeting of that committee. The responsibilities of this Ambassador are to take action items; communicate statements of Intent; and to report back to the InM committee. The report by the ambassador will be documented in the Committee's minutes. An ambassador is not empowered to make binding statements.
The Committee may send an ambassador to another committee because it has learned that a topic of interest to the Committee will be discussed, or at the request of that committee. The ambassador shall be empowered to represent the Committee by means of a formal motion. The empowerment motion requires consensus, the motion shall include a statement of the topic for which the ambassador is empowered to represent the Committee, as well as the duration of the ambassador role, which shall not exceed 7 days.
