FHIM S&P Modeling Project

  • The latest work on this project involves studying FHIR provenance and provenance in general to understand how provenance could or should be represented in the Security and Privacy DAM update.

Vocabulary Alignment Project

  • No update given at meeting. Post-meeting, we learned that project participants presented a possible approach for completing this deliverable. It was recommended that a terminologist such as Rob McClure be consulted to confirm the formatting of the final deliverable.

  • #5658 - Motion to approve the definitions (Kathleen/Diana) Objections: 0; Abstentions: 0; Approve: 5
  • #3411 - Motion to accept vocabulary (remove: and remove 'group' or keep group as an entity) (Kathleen/Diana) Objections: 0; Abstentions: 0; Approve: 5

From Kathleen's email:

I added maps to W3C PROV definitions – and now don’t think Group should be included – even the FHIR definition makes it clear that they are never agents, which aligns with W3C

ProvenanceParticipantType The type of a provenance participant. Use either a defined FHIR resource type, or, if the reference is not to a resource, one of the defined codes, or some other code if none of the defined codes are appropriate. This value set defines its own terms in the system http://hl7.org/fhir/provenance-participant-type

Use the following Resource Types as codes and not Resource Types per se to replace the value set http://hl7.org/fhir/vs/provenance-agent-type or their FHIR Resource reference. All of these map to W3C Agent [see full entry below]

IRI:http://www.w3.org/ns/prov#Agent: An agent is something that bears some form of responsibility for an activity taking place, for the existence of an entity, or for another agent's activity. has subclasses prov:Organization , prov:Person , prov:SoftwareAgent

  • Device - This resource identifies an instance of a manufactured thing that is used in the provision of healthcare without being substantially changed through that activity. The device may be a machine, an insert, a computer, an application, etc. This includes durable (reusable) medical equipment as well as disposable equipment used for diagnostic, treatment, and research for healthcare and public health.

Maps to W3C prov:SoftwareAgent definition: A software agent is running software.

  • Group represents a defined collection of entities that may be discussed or acted upon collectively but which are not expected to act collectively and are not formally or legally recognized. I.e. A collection of entities that isn't an Organization.

Maps to W3C prov:hadMember opdefinition: A collection is an entity that provides a structure to some constituents, which are themselves entities. These constituents are said to be member of the collections.

  • Organization - A formally or informally recognized grouping of people or organizations formed for the purpose of achieving some form of collective action. Includes companies, institutions, corporations, departments, community groups, healthcare practice groups, etc.

Maps to W3C PROV prov:Organization definition: An organization is a social or legal institution such as a company, society, etc.

  • Patient Demographics and other administrative information about a person or animal receiving care or other health-related services.

Maps to W3C prov:Person definition: Person agents are people.

  • Practitioner - A person who is directly or indirectly involved in the provisioning of healthcare.

Maps to W3C prov:Person definition: Person agents are people.

RelatedPerson - Information about a person that is involved in the care for a patient, but who is not the target of healthcare, nor has a formal responsibility in the care process. Maps to W3C prov:Person definition: Person agents are people.
