You may be aware that HL7 has been working with a team of consultants over the last year on the strategic initiative project, undertaken with the support of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to improve the efficiency of the HL7 standards development process. As a result, a number of changes to our organizational structure, operations, and policies/procedures have been suggested to improve our efficiency and enable the organization to respond quickly to the needs of the healthcare community for coherent and timely informatics standards.

We will be setting the stage for the implementation of these various initiatives at an open session on Monday, September 11, from 5:30 - 7:00 pm in Camino Hall during the working group meeting at the Boca Raton Resort, Boca Raton, FL. This meeting will include a Q and A session. A follow-on meeting is planned for the January 2007 working group meeting to discuss progress to date and identify further milestones. Please plan to join us on Monday, September 11, to hear first-hand about the transition strategy and your part in helping move the organization to new levels of efficiency. The session will be recorded and made available to those members who cannot be in attendance on September 11.

See Report on the Strategic Initiative to the Affiliate Council for details of the report by the HL7 chair on 20060910.
