Minutes

Minutes/Conclusions Reached:

The WG started with the intention to complete work that had been started on the FHIR

wiki. Ewout had reviewed the items and had attemped to update and address the items. Here

the WG started reviewing how the Person attributes were being "folded in" to the Patient

resource.

Patient identifier came into the discussion. The point of the discussion was whether the

identifier should be on the patient resource class or the demographics related class. A

suggestion was made by Helen to put in both demographics and the patient class. After

discussion and presentation of ad hoc use cases, it was decided that this was a good

suggestion. Ewout will reintroduce it into the demographics associated class.

The WG then discussed whether a patient should have a "period" attribute essentially

meaning "effective time". The WG agreed that the "effective time" did not add value as

there were no use cases that we could think of wherein this would be communicated

OtherID - The question here was whether we need data about the process of validation

(e.g. date identified, who made the identification, how was the identifcation made, etc.)

The WG could not think of the need for these, so futher no modeling need for the process

of validation

Contact - Ewout modeled this as a contact associated class. Some defined codes:

  • Family
  • Guardian
  • Friend
  • Partner
  • Work
  • Caregiver
  • Agent
  • Guarantor

This seems to be aligned with the V3 model, however, after a little discussion regarding the use of the concept of "next of kin" within v2, the WG decided to keep Family and add

"Emergency" to the codes, for clarity.

With this, the WG has completed the open items on the FHIR Person Resource Wiki. We still

need to address items on the FHIR wiki for the Patient resource. This will be a topic for

a future meeting.

Just before the meeting ended, the chair attempted to address a harmonization proposal

from the Vocabulary Facilitator, Wendy Huang. The proposal name is:

Add two codes to RoleClass_QualifiedEntity

The summary reads:

We have identified a requirement in Personnel Management topic implementation to

uniquely identify provider credentials and provider expertise as two individual classes,

hence two new class codes are required.

Since the time had run out on this call, the WG decided to put this on the agenda for the

next telecon on February 18, 2013. This will be the first item on the agenda since the

deadline for submission will not allow one more week.

Adjourned: 1:01 PM PST.
