Glossary Definition: A Transmission is the transfer of data (serialized HL7 message) by some means from a logical sender to a logical receiver. This is independent of the method of transfer as supported by the Messaging Infrastructure Layer.
Notes
- A Transmission is an Interaction that's being transported over some Messaging Infrastructure. A Transmission is an HL7 artefact which is contained in a Transmission Wrapper.
- Transmission as the concept shoudn't be confused with the concept of the Session. Transmission unlike Session is the HL7 artifact that maps to one HL7 interaction and HL7 message being sent within, whereas Session is the Messaging Infrastructure Layer concept that refers to the "pipe" established between Sender and Receiver to exchange the data. A Session includes one to many HL7 Transmission.
- Identification and Uniqueness of Transmission - tranmission is uniquely defined by the Transmission.id of the HL7 MCCI Wrapper.
