  • Brief description of project:

The purpose of this project is to complete and ballot the specification for exchanging a standardized NBS DBS laboratory result (based on the 2011 Public Health Informatics Institute (PHII) Newborn Screening (NBS) Dried Blood Spot (DBS) implementation guide utilizing the HL7 Version 2.5.1 ORU^R01 message) updated to the LRI Framework. This message will send all electronic NBS DBS laboratory test results from the laboratory that conducted the testing to the results receiver. The results receiver may be inclusive of the primary care physician, birthing hospital, public health agency, medical specialist, health information exchange, or vital records department.

This implementation guide will also provide recommendations on vocabulary standards and on types of identifiers to capture, which HL7 fields those identifiers are mapped to, and the specific identifiers that may be used.
