Development Edition
A Development Edition is a publication of the HL7 v3 standard documentation which contains the latest versions of all domains, regardless of the status of the domain on the normative status. The Develepment Edition is also referred to as the Ballot Publication, or Ballot.
From a developers' standpoint, the Development Edition contains the very latest materials. From a standard reviewer's stanpoint, the Development Edition contains domains whose contents are subject to the ballot process. From an implementer's perspective the Development Edition is a specification with alpha or beta status - there may be significant changes before its contents become normative.
The Development Edition is published three times a year, its name is derived from the Month and Year of publication. Prior to 2005 the Development Editions were numbered:
- December 2003 - Ballot 6
- March 2004 - Ballot 7
- August 2004 - Ballot 8
