An Intermediary refers to a node at the Messaging Transport Level that sits between the Source and the Destination. The Intermediaries provide message routing and transport capabilities at the Messaging Transport level, and can function as interface between different physical Transports as long as the Messaging protocol at the Infrastructure layer stays the same. To facilitate the transport capabilities, Intermediaries might change transport level message headers or metadata that is added at the Messaging Infrastructure level.
