CDC's Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion is working with Alschuler Associates and a group of vendors on a HL7 V3 CDA R2 solution that will enable hospitals to report healthcare-associated infection (HAI) data to CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). A CDA R2 HAI implementation (IG) guide is on the September HL7 ballot (see attached). We have been working with vendors of HAI surveillance applications to develop and pilot test the IG. Last week, after a heads up from Liora, we distributed to our vendor list the Implementation/Conformance TC's invitation to present during the HL7 V3 Implementation Case Studies Session on September 19. Michael Barton and Rob Hausam of TheraDoc expressed interest in presenting their experience at the Case Studies session. I am cc'ing Mike and Rob on this message.
CDC and Alschuler Associates will be pleased to help coordinate plans for the case study presentation and introduce the topic at the HL7 meeting. However, in keeping with the expressed intent of the session, our expectation is that Mike and Rob would take the lead in describing their implementation experience and in reporting lessons learned. A case study from NICTIZ (NL) for the tutorial in Atlanta regarding our efforts in the e-locum / GP patient summary for out-of-practice hours project. We are at the moment in pilot-stage where the first GP's are using the system and request changes (mainly on infrastructure but some on content of messages). Version control issues regarding HL7v3 are being addressed etc. Presentation is available at: http://www.hl7.org/library/committees/impl/wg%20HL7%20atlanta%20case%20study%20NL%2Eppthttp://www.hl7.org/library/committees/impl/wg%20HL7%20atlanta%20case%20study%20NL%2Eppt
