The term Hierarchical Message Description (HMD) is used both to identify:
- a tabular view of a static model. The HMD, as exposed by the Excel and Table views, is a normative artefact within the standard.
- a file format which contains the definition of the artefact as generated from the artefact repository. This will be replaced by the MIF file format.
