For the 4th bullet (Reduced processing time), being explicitly told to add, update or remove something can certainly result in less processing time than having to retrieve the previous version of the record, perform a field-by-field comparison and then make the determination of what changes to make (or have been made).

For the 5th bullet (simpler implementation decision making), the premise is the same. If the application is explicitly told what to do, then there's no need for sophisticated logic, for example "when do I treat omitted data as a request to delete vs. just as omitted data?"

It is perfectly legitimate to add and remove other identifiers. For example, changing identifiers captured on Entity when the root class is Role.
