HL7 has total responsibility for creating the standards and FHIR Foundation deals with issues of implementation. How does the US Realm fit? Much of what we talk about here is implementation, but we play in both fields. No discussion in FHIR Foundation yet over whether or not they'll have a US Realm component. Wayne: FHIR Foundation will only focus on implementation, and this is a standards development activity. Ed views some of our activities as being in the implementation area, particularly with the ONC. Meaningful use is an implementation, not a standard. Hans doesn't see US Realm as participating in implementations, but that doesn't mean that a relationship with FHIR Foundation is unnecessary. Ed agrees that this is resolved and US Realm is not working on implementation in the same way that the FHIR Foundation is doing. US Realm is related only to the creation of HL7 specification at any level of balloting; any implementation is outside the scope of this committee. | ||
