Product Brief - HL7 EHR System Long Term Care Functional Profile (EHR-S LTC FP)
Electronic Health Record Systems - Long Term Care Functional Profile
Electronic Health Record Systems - Long Term Care Functional Profile Functional Profile, Release 1 - US Realm (EHR LTC FP)
Application Functional Specifications
Normative, ANSI Standard
- HL7 Normative Jan2009: EHR_LTCFP_R1_N1_2009JAN
- ANSI/HL7 EHR LTCFP, R1-2010
The LTC EHR-S Functional Profile establishes the functions and conformance criteria for EHR systems in the nursing home setting for the US Realm, and will serve as a key resource to CCHIT in the development of certification requirements for EHR systems in the Long Term Care - nursing home community. CCHIT road-mapped LTC certification committee work to begin in late 2008. In addition, this functional profile will provide the foundation for vendor/provider communication regarding expectations and requirements for EHR systems deployed in this care setting.
While the HL7 EHR-S FM provides a reference list of functions that may be present in an electronic health record system (EHR-S), the nursing home community has developed this LTC Functional Profile that identifies the subset of functions from the model that reflects the unique aspects and needs for EHR systems in the long term care setting. CCHIT will use the LTC EHR-S Functional Profile as a reference when they develop the functionality, interoperability, and security requirements for certified nursing home EHR system products.
Business Case (Intended Use, Customers)
- EHR Vendors,
- Providers and Clinicians,
- Vendor: Health Care IT,
- Provider: Healthcare Institutions;
- Long-Term Care Providers
This standard (functional profile) represents the culmination of extensive work by private and public industry representatives and other stakeholders to identify functional requirements for EHR systems in nursing home settings. This document represents industry consensus on system requirements.
It is important for functional profiles to outline major trends and articulate a vision for functionality (especially interoperability) for the future. Furthermore, the delineation of potential functions for future implementation and adoption should guide vendors in system development, and help purchasers develop and articulate to vendors a strategic vision for future functional requirements.
